About
Sun, sea and sand provide the backdrop to the Barry Island 10K – renowned for its feel good atmosphere and varied route.
Races start and finish at the iconic Whitmore Bay, which also hosts an exciting Event Village with live music, entertainment, stands and tasty street food. Relax on a deck chair post-run or enjoy an optional (but very much encouraged) dip in the sea on Barry’s golden sand beach.
The race forms part of the R4W 10K Series – which also includes races in Cardiff, Newport and Porthcawl.

The route of the Barry Island 10K takes in all of the area’s most scenic seaside spots.
It begins near the sea front at Whitmore Bay and take participants from the promenade through Barry’s regenerated retail area before arching around the iconic Barry Dock Offices building. After heading up Subway Road, runners will go down Broad Street, pass Barry Train Station and head into the pretty Romilly Park.
Scenic views of the Bristol Channel and Porthkerry Country Park await runners from the 6K mark, before running alongside the picturesque Knapp pebble beach and Watch House Bay. Next, they’ll run up The Parade before heading back to the Island to take on the final 2K.
Runners will pass the roaring crowds before a loop of the amusement centre and a downhill finish alongside the gardens of Friars Road, overlooking Whitmore Bay.
There a number of junior races taking place after the main 10K event - 1 Mile Fun Run, a competitive Future Challengers race, and the 50m Toddler Dash. All juniors will receive a medal, accompanying adults will only receive a medal and chip timing if they choose the "Fun Run Adult" £9 ticket. If they do not wish to receive these, you can add an accompanying adult pass (£3) in the checkout process for the Child ticket.

There will be a number of road closures in place. Please use public transport where possible and check your race day pack for more information on road closures. You'll find travel advice on the event website.
Parking
A number of car parks are available to pre-book, but with limited capacity - so runners are encouraged to book early. Users should be parked by 09:00am to avoid road closures. As you approach Barry Island (set your sat nav for Friars Road or CF62 5TJ), traffic management signage will direct you to the most appropriate car park, depending on your direction of travel. Signage will direct runners to the start line from each car park. You will need your pre-booking confirmation to enter the car park. Please note that you cannot drive into the car park without a booking to drop someone off.

Age Requirements
All runners must be aged 15 or older on the day of the event in order to take part in the 10K.
Race Packs
Your race pack including a race day guide, running number and timing chip will be posted to you and will arrive within 7 days of the event.
Overseas entrants must collect their packs on the morning of the race from the Event Village.
Baggage
A baggage facility will be available before the race, open from 08:45am. It will be located in the Event Village, near the start line. Runners can deposit one bag, which must display a baggage label (which is a tear-off strip on the bottom of your race number). Valuables are left at your own risk.
Pacers
Pacers will be running with sail flags that correspond with the following times: 45, 60 and 75 minutes. Look out for them in your stating pen, they are a friendly bunch and there to enhance your experience and help you achieve your goal finish time!
Aid Stations
There will be a water station around the 5K mark, offering Brecon Carreg water.
