Route information
This spectacular route takes you from the city and out along the Brighton seafront. Featuring incredible crowd support cheering you on to the Finish Line, and a fast and relatively flat course taking you through many of the area’s vibrant communities.
Marathon Distance: 26.2 miles
Elevation: 230m (750ft) ascent and 250m (820ft) descent Terrain: Road
Starting at Preston Park, the course will take you through the city and past iconic landmarks including the Royal Pavilion. You will then make your way to the coast and towards the beautiful headland village of Ovingdean, before running along the Brighton and Hove seafront – where attractions include the famous beach huts, the remains of the West Pier, and the Brighton Palace Pier.
You’ll then head towards the Finish Line at Hove Lawns, beside the sea – the perfect location for a quick dip to cool off once you’ve experienced that awesome post-finish high.
Earlier in the course there will be a few undulating climbs, but the route will flatten out for the final miles, allowing you to settle into your stride as you push towards the Finish Line.
With unparalleled community support, the atmosphere will be truly inspirational as you’re cheered on by thousands of spectators throughout the route and entertained by plenty of music stations to add to the atmosphere.
There will also be the usual on-course support, including paramedics, water stations, gel stations and more.
Pacers
A Pacing Team will be running with you on Event Day – further information on the times they will be pacing will be in your Participant Event Guide, issued around one month before the event.
Look out for the Pacing Team in the start corrals in Preston Park; they will be wearing flags with their target times on them.
Marathon Cut-Off Time
The roads around the course must follow a strict reopening schedule. The organisers have worked this out so that even if you continued walking fast, you will be able to finish the race on the actual road surface of the route.
However, anyone moving around the course at a slower than 7-hour pace (that is slower than approximately 4 miles an hour), may be asked to move onto the pavement and, in effect, regard themselves as a pedestrian. Most of the last five miles are not on public roads, so this should not be a problem.
