Route information
Three race distances will be available -
- Super Sprint - 2.5km Run > 10km Bike > 2.5km Run
Run
A scenic trail run that perfectly showcases the wild beauty of the Kenfig Dunes. Starting from the Visitor Centre, the route winds gently toward the coast, tracing
sandy paths that weave through dune grassland and pockets of low scrub. The terrain is firm underfoot with a few softer sandy stretches to test balance and rhythm, while the route’s subtle rises and dips give it a flowing, natural feel.
The loop opens out toward the coast. Turning
near the edge of the dunes and before looping back towards the visitor centre. With just 22 m of elevation gain, it’s an accessible yet rewarding course, a true taste of the Kenfig landscape where sea air, sand, and nature come together in every stride.
Bike
Distance / Elevation: 12 km / 83 m gain. Fast and flowing, with a series of gentle climbs and sweeping descents. Riders will experience a dynamic mix of terrain as the route winds through quiet country lanes and open stretches linking South and North Cornelly, before returning toward the coast. The scenery is spectacular, from the rolling farmland and glimpses of village life to the wide, open vistas across the sweeping coastal dunes
and the tranquil waters of Kenfig Pool. A route that rewards both speed and rhythm, set within one of South Wales’ most distinctive landscapes.
- Sprint - 5km Run > 20km Bike > 2.5km Run
Run
A trail run that captures the very essence of Kenfig’s wild coastal beauty. Starting from the Visitor Centre, runners head toward the dunes before tracing a wider loop that
skirts the edge of the golf course and opens out toward the coast. The course follows a mix of firm sandy paths and grassy tracks, rising gently in places to offer sweeping views across Kenfig Pool and the Bristol Channel. Midway through, the trail turns north along the dune ridge, where the landscape feels wild and untamed, before looping back inland toward the finish. With 27 m of elevation gain, it’s a route that flows naturally between sea and sand, offering both challenge and calm, a perfect balance of rhythm, terrain, and scenery within one of South Wales’ most striking natural settings.
Bike
Distance / Elevation: 20.09 km / 202m gain. This fast and varied 20km route takes riders beyond the dunes and into the rolling countryside surrounding Pyle and the
Cornelly villages. The course blends smooth, open roads with a handful of steady climbs and quick descents, offering a rhythm that rewards both power and flow. Leaving the coast, the route sweeps inland through gently undulating farmland before looping back toward Kenfig, where distant sea views return as you descend toward transition. With over 200m of elevation gain, it’s a ride that combines pace, endurance, and scenery in equal measure, a true test set against the stunning backdrop of the South Wales coast.
- Standard - 10km Run > 40km Bike > 5km Run
Run
Two loops of the 5km course above.
Bike
Distance / Elevation: 39.54 km / 372m gain. A challenging yet rewarding 39.5 km course that showcases the full character of the Kenfig landscape. The route opens with
a smooth, fast section from the dunes toward Pyle before branching into a sweeping circuit that rolls through open farmland and quiet village roads. Riders will encounter a
mix of steady climbs and exhilarating descents, testing endurance and bike handling in equal measure. The loop extends south toward Porthcawl, offering wide coastal views before turning inland through undulating lanes framed by hedgerows and distant hills. With over 370m of climbing, this course balances power, rhythm, and scenic immersion, a true test of strength set against the ever changing backdrop of sea, sand, and countryside.
