Race Overview:
The MTC Hafren Ultra is also Day 1 of the MTC Severn Challenge.
The route:
In order to get to the source of the Severn, the race start takes competitors through a near four mile mountain trek, up the Plynlimon which has been described as the most dangerous mountain in Wales; due mainly to the splattered and concealed bogs, so best progress will be made in keeping to the designated routes!
A Race Marshall will be in waiting at the source to ensure that everybody has arrived safely and competitors can then commence their journey on Britain’s longest river path, retracing their steps back to where they started at Rhyd-y-benwch, which is now CP1.
Hopefully nobody will have pulled out before this point!
Good news – the altitude drop from the source at this stage is a remarkable 1,600ft! The route takes you through some inspiring scenery unchanged by many a year.

Entrants must arrive at Rhyd-y-benwych picnic area between 10:30 – 10:45 Race start will be 11:00.
The race is point to point and it is the competitors responsibility to make their own travel arrangements in getting to the start and leaving at the finish.

FAQs
Do I have to run the whole Severn Challenge to enter this race?
No absolutely not! Entrants are able to enter each section of the race independently from the whole run, so if you don't fancy the whole run, you're more than welcome to enter a section separately.
Where does The Hafren Ultra start?
The race starts at the picnic area at Rhyd-y-benwych, and runners are asked to be there from 10am.
Should I be self-sufficient for The Hafren Ultra?
There will be checkpoints along the way but all runners should ensure enough food and water to sustain themselves over the course of the event.
